10 Tiny Decluttering Wins That Take Less Than 10 Minutes

Here are 10 spaces that will give you quick wins to get in the decluttering mood. Set a 10 minute timer and do what you can in that time. I am constantly saying, “Alexa, set timer for 10 minutes.” If 10 minutes feels too long, start with 5, you can always add more.

First step is to remove all trash, receipts, empty boxes, plastic wrap, etc. Then remove any items that have a home and return them to where they belong.

1. Junk Drawer

I know you have at least one! It really helps to have compartments or some kind of separators to group like items and give them homes within the drawer.

2. Sock Drawer

Toss any with holes, missing mates, and socks you never wear.

3. Closet Shelf

Think of the shelf as a container, you don’t want it overflowing and hard to find things.  Remove anything that doesn’t belong in that space and return it to its home.

4. Bedside Table

Only keep things you may need while in bed…a pen and notebook, place for a book, chapstick, nose strips, lotion.  If you don’t have a drawer and nice basket will help contain things.

5. The Entryway or Coat Closet

It can seem daunting but it really doesn’t take long to get the entryway back in order.  Remove out of season coats and hats, shoe’s that never get worn, and mystery gloves.

6. The “Random” Kitchen Cabinet

You know the one that’s filled with lids that don’t fit anything, those free plastic cups that never get used, and expired spices.

7. Bathroom Counter or Drawer

Toss old makeup, used up lotions and skin care, or anything you haven’t used in months.

8. Your Purse or Bag

Toss and trash, old receipts, gum packets, and that hand sanitizer that leaked two months ago.

9. Magazine or Paper Stack

Recycle what you don’t need, file and/or scan important docs, and give the surface a good reset.

10. Phone Apps

Free up that storage with removing the digital clutter.  Delete 5-10 unused apps, you can always add them back if you need too.
